In the old days, the forint was the Hungarian equivalent of the Austrian guilders (within the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy) and was divided into 100 krajczars. In 1892, the Hungarian krone (equal to 100 fillér) appeared in its place, and in 1926 it was replaced by the pengő. After the hyperinflation that occurred in the years 1945-1946, the forit was reintroduced into circulation in 1947. Historically, 1 forint is equal to 100 fillér, but since 1999, the filléry have been withdrawn from circulation due to their negligible value.
